Source: Pentagon revalidates requirement for 2,443 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft

The Defense Department has determined -- after a congressionally requested review -- that the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps still require 2,443 Joint Strike Fighters, preserving the planned acquisition objective in a move that avoids disrupting unit cost and retains Pentagon plans to buy F-35s through 2038.
