President-elect Trump promises to bolster a ‘depleted military’

As a candidate, Donald Trump promised the largest military buildup since the Reagan era, meant to shore up what he called a “depleted” military. He also vowed to take early, aggressive moves to defeat ISIS and deal with terrorism around the world. With the continuing resolution extended until March, Trump -- not President Obama -- will negotiate the budget deal with Congress. Armed with a Republican Congress, he still faces some thorny budget issues, including paying for a slate of new, expensive weapons programs the services are just beginning to develop.
