AETC Likely To Approve Request Allowing Students To Fly F-35 Block 2A

Air Education and Training Command is close to approving a request from the F-35 training wing at Eglin Air Force Base, FL, to let student pilots -- and not just instructors -- fly JSF aircraft equipped with Block 2A software. Officials at the 33rd Fighter Wing recently submitted the request to AETC because the preliminary version of Block 2A that Lockheed Martin delivered to the base earlier this summer is extremely similar to the supposedly less capable Block 1B configuration...
