Air Force awards PAR preliminary design contract to Boeing

Boeing will begin preliminary design work for the Presidential Aircraft Recapitalization under a contract worth roughly $600 million awarded Tuesday, the Air Force said this week. Over the next 18 months, Boeing will decide how to install mission communications, self-defense measures and medical facilities into two 747-8 jets, which will be able to autonomously generate power on the ground and in flight.
