The Defense Department announced Jan. 8 that it in 2020 it will begin basing two F-35A squadrons at Royal Air Force Lakenheath in the U.K. The announcement came during a Pentagon press briefing regarding DOD's effort to consolidate infrastructure at European installations, which includes a plan to close RAF Mildenhall, a base in the U.K. that employs about 3,200 military personnel.
