Air Force completes initial B61-12 qualification testing

The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center announced Tuesday it has finished initial qualification testing on the upgraded B61-12 nuclear weapon. The first guided nuclear gravity bomb -- meaning the weapon is dropped from an aircraft and relies on gravity's pull to lead it to a target -- was dropped from the F-15E, variants of the F-16, the B-2 and NATO's PA-200 in 23 tests over the course of 2017.
