Air Force To Develop New Long-Range, Optionally Manned Nuclear Bomber

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has given the Air Force the go-ahead to begin developing a new stealthy, nuclear-capable bomber that will be built using existing technologies. The goal is to field long-range aircraft that can fly with or without a pilot in the cockpit. The major acquisition program will be included in the Air Force's fiscal year 2012 budget proposal, which is scheduled to go to Capitol Hill in mid-February.
