Air Force to request Stand-in Attack Weapon proposal from Northrop this summer

The Air Force will release a request for proposals in the coming months for the Stand-in Attack Weapon -- an upgraded version of a developmental Navy guided missile that's intended to enhance the F-35's ability to defeat anti-access/area-denial defenses. The Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile-Extended Range that Northrop Grumman is building for the Navy is itself a modified weapon.
