Air Force restructuring Checkmate strategy group, convenes 'pilot crisis task force'

The Air Force is revamping “Checkmate,” a strategic studies group started in the 1970s that sporadically evolves based on the needs of service leadership, according to the Air Force's operations chief. Lt. Gen. Mark Nowland, deputy chief of staff for operations, welcomed Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein's decision to revive Checkmate as a cross-staff effort under the operations branch.
