Army to create degraded visual environment test site at Yuma

Outdated equipment and safety concerns have spurred the Army to build the continental United States' only site specifically designed for degraded visual environment testing at Yuma Proving Ground, AZ. An environmental assessment for the project notes that current test sites at Yuma have conditions that make it difficult to create dust for DVEs, which are "significant" causes of non-combat aircraft loss.
