In keeping with its tradition of naming its helicopters after Native American tribes, the Army plans to dub its new Light Utility Helicopter the Lakota, according to a recent memorandum. In the Oct. 16 memo, Claude Bolton, the Army's acquisition executive, said he "concur[s] with the popular assignment of the American Indian Tribal name 'Lakota' for the LUH in accordance with U.S. Materiel Command's recommendation."
