Army seeks prototype vehicles to lift heavier Abrams tanks

The Army needs to upgrade a total of 933 M88A2 Hercules tank recovery vehicles to adjust to increasingly hefty Abrams tanks, according to a recent notice. The M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank, equipped with new force protection kits, weighs about 80 tons, the Aug. 17 notice states.
