Audit finds Navy's large robotic sub program years behind schedule, over budget

A government watchdog's analysis has found that the Navy's Extra Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle program is at least three years behind schedule and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget. The Navy purchased five prototype XLUUVs from Boeing in 2019 but didn’t require the company to demonstrate its readiness before it started building the vehicles, resulting in major cost overruns and delays, according to the Government Accountability Office.
