CBO: Shipbuilding costs over next 30 years could climb 17% past Navy’s estimates

Total shipbuilding costs for the Navy over the next 30 years could average $40 billion -- 17% more than the service estimated -- largely due to cost growth among various programs, the Congressional Budget Office found . To implement the 2025 shipbuilding plan released last March -- which aims for 387 ships by 2054 -- the Navy’s budget would need to increase from $255 billion to $340 billion in fiscal year 2024 dollars by 2054, according to the CBO report...
