DARPA Launches New Radio Program Focused on Compatibility, Cost

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has launched a new program to develop radio gateways capable of managing high-speed data transfer while remaining compatible with older military and first responder equipment, the agency announced last week. The goal of the Mobile Ad hoc Interoperability Network GATEway (MAINGATE) program is to provide "tactical, real-time, high-fidelity video, data and voice services" for dismounted troops and military vehicles, a May 30 broad agency announcement reads.
