DARPA Seeks New Ways to Command Small Units

Defense Advance Research Projects Agency officials have kicked off a program aimed at improving communication among small-unit members fighting in cities, according to a recent DARPA solicitation. The goal of the Urban Leader Tactical Response, Awareness and Visualization (ULTRA-Vis) program is to replace the hand gesturing, shouted commands or radio calls small unit leaders now use to direct their teams during urban firefights.
