DOC finalizes determination to ban Kaspersky software due to national security concerns

The Commerce Department is using its review authority over foreign transactions in the information and communications technology and services sector to ban Kaspersky software from use in the United States, utilizing a controversial Trump-era rulemaking also leveraged under the Biden administration to address national security risks. The ban specifically applies to “Kaspersky Lab, Inc.,” which the Bureau of Industry and Security describes as “the U.S. subsidiary of a Russia-based anti-virus software and cybersecurity company.” BIS published the final determination Monday...
