DOD to build border barriers with some excess weapon system funds

The Pentagon intends to transfer $1.5 billion from several areas, including weapons acquisition programs, to construct new barriers on the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a recent reprogramming notification sent to Congress. The Defense Department released a short statement Friday saying the funds would go toward "fence replacement" on four projects around Tucson, AZ and El Centro, TX, totaling just over 78 miles.
