The Defense Department has issued an interim final rule to codify procedures it has been using to quickly determine if proposed private-sector renewable energy projects across the country are likely to interfere with military activities. The rule on the mission compatibility evaluation process was triggered by a measure in the Fiscal Year 2011 Defense Authorization Act requiring DOD to issue procedures for addressing the impacts on military operations from utility-scale renewable energy and transmission projects.
