DOT&E: In testing, CH-53K performed significantly better than legacy CH-53E

The Marine Corps' new CH-53K helicopter showed "significant effectiveness, suitability and survivability improvements" when compared to the legacy CH-53E helicopter, according to the "controlled unclassified information" version of the Pentagon director of operational test and evaluation's annual report. “Specifically, the CH-53K has demonstrated improved handling qualities in adverse flying conditions, increased external load capacity, and improved maintainability, as well as survivability against operationally relevant kinetic threats,” the report states.
