Draft defense policy bill ties amphib funds to quarterly briefings, directs review of ship sustainment budget

The House Armed Services readiness subcommittee’s draft of the fiscal year 2024 defense authorization bill proposes to withhold up to 50% of amphibious warship funds until lawmakers receive a briefing on the vessels' operational status. Obtained by Inside Defense , the draft legislation includes a section titled “Limitation on Availability of Funds Pending Quarterly Briefing on Availability of Amphibious Warships.” Section 333 of the legislation would “fence” or restrict funding for ship operations and maintenance until the subcommittee receives quarterly...
