FCC Approves Commercial Ultra-Wideband Use, Protects Military GPS

The Federal Communications Commission today approved unlicensed commercial use of ultra-wideband wireless communications devices, but only above the frequency of 3.1 gigahertz. While the ruling fell short of previous Defense Department requests for greater restrictions, DOD nonetheless lauded FCC's move as the correct decision. In a Feb. 14 statement, DOD said it "supports FCC's reasoned and balanced approach of protecting critical national security systems from frequency interference while allowing commercial deployment of new technologies."
