The Pentagon's projected cost savings from the 2005 round of base realignments and closures may be too optimistic, according to a Government Accountability Office report released today. In May, the Defense Department unveiled a list of bases it recommends shutting down or consolidating -- moves DOD officials say would save almost $50 billion over 20 years.
