GAO Takes Swipe At Pentagon's 'Fragmented' Portfolio Reviews

The Government Accountability Office is recommending that the Pentagon update its portfolio review process to remedy what auditors consider to be a "fragmented" management system that suffers from the absence of "sustained leadership and policy," according to an Aug. 27 report . "The Department of Defense (DOD) is not effectively using portfolio management to optimize its weapon system investments, as evidenced by affordability challenges in areas such as shipbuilding and potential duplication among some of its programs," the GAO report...
