Gates Casts Doubt on Need for EFV

NEWPORT, RI -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates today cast doubt on the need for the Marine Corps' Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, underscoring the scrutiny the program will face in this year's Quadrennial Defense Review. In a speech this morning at the Naval War College, Gates prefaced his comments on the EFV by noting he had directed the QDR team to be realistic about scenarios in which direct military action would be needed -- so the Pentagon can better gauge its requirements...
