House Appropriators Unhappy With Navy's Shipbuilding Plan, Add $1 Billion

House appropriators are unhappy with the Navy's shipbuilding plan and are taking steps to rightsize what they see as an undersized fleet by adding almost $1 billion to the service's budget, according to a draft mark the full committee will vote on tomorrow. The fiscal year 2014 defense spending bill calls for an increase of $950 million to fully fund the Virginia-class submarine program.
