House panel adopts software acquisition, emerging technology amendments

The House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday during its mark-up of the fiscal year 2022 defense authorization bill adopted several amendments aimed at streamlining acquisition of software and emerging technologies. An amendment offered by Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI), chair of the cyber, innovative technologies and information systems subcommittee, would require Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to provide a report by Oct. 1, 2022 on whether a new contracting mechanism would accelerate the delivery of critical software to warfighters.
