House Panel Issues Roles and Missions Report

The House Armed Services Committee's roles-and-missions panel today released a report urging the Pentagon to overcome the "tyranny of optimism" that has repeatedly led defense officials to underestimate challenges when developing and acquiring new weapon systems. The report calls on the committee's oversight and investigations subcommittee to conduct a comprehensive review of the Defense Department's acquisition process, enlisting all the resources available to Congress, including the Government Accountability Office and the Congressional Research Service.
