House Passes Republican Budget Resolution With $324 Billion For Defense

The House today approved a Republican budget resolution for fiscal year 2002 that increases defense spending by $14.6 billion above FY-01 levels. The budget plan passed by a 222-205 vote. The resolution tracks closely with the budget plan sent to Congress by President Bush last month. As did the Bush budget, the House budget adds $2.6 billion to defense research and development spending.
