House proposes increasing M109 modernization funding

The House Appropriations Committee is proposing a $79 million boost to spending on the Army's Paladin Integrated Management program, which upgrades the service's self-propelled howitzers. The committee's report for the fiscal year 2022 defense funding bill includes $526 million for the Paladin. This would allow the Army to upgrade 32 of its howitzer systems, instead of the 25 that the service proposed in its FY-22 budget request.
