House spending bill shifts funds for electromagnetic railgun

The House's version of the fiscal year 2017 defense spending bill adds nearly $30 million for development of the Navy's electromagnetic railgun. The legislation, passed by the full House on June 16, adopted an amendment proposed by Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI) that adds $29.8 million to the Navy's research, development, test and evaluation account. The language also reduces funding for defense-wide RDT&E by $33.9 million.
