Lockheed Martin Chosen to Build New Fleet of Presidential Helicopters

The Navy announced today that Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $1.7 billion contract to build a new fleet of presidential helicopters. Lockheed is to deliver the first helicopter in 2009, the Navy said. The Navy manages the program because the Marine Corps flies the helicopters. The announcement caps a more than two-year fight between the two companies to provide the helicopter -- called Marine One -- that transports the president.
