Navy: Amphibious programs needed despite budget constraints

During an industry conference this week, a Navy official gave an overview of amphibious programs during a time of budget constraints. The LPD-class amphibious transport dock, LHA-class landing helicopter assault vessel and Light Amphibious Warship all have different missions and an ongoing study will determine the quantities of each ship, according to Tom Rivers, executive director for amphibious, auxiliary and sealift ships.
