Navy awards four design contracts for new towing, salvage, rescue ships

Naval Sea Systems Command awarded contracts to four shipyards in late May to begin designing a new class of towing, salvage and rescue ships, according to a command spokesman. The four yards awarded design studies for the T-ATS(X) program on May 31 are Bollinger Shipyards, based in Lockport, LA; Eastern Shipbuilding Group in Panama City, FL; Fincantieri Marine Group, the U.S. subsidiary of an Italian company, which has three shipyards in Wisconsin; and VT Halter Marine, based in Pascagoula, MS,...
