Navy, Coast Guard Formalize Stronger Ties

The Navy and the Coast Guard have approved significant changes to the 1998 "National Fleet" agreement between the services, formalizing the closer working relationship the two have shared since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, according to a Navy spokesman. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark signed the expanded agreement today, the spokesman said. The Coast Guard previously approved the agreement, he said.
