Navy, Marine Corps Tell Congress of $7 Billion Shortfall in FY-07

The Navy and Marine Corps are facing a collective $7 billion shortfall in fiscal year 2007 to pay for needed aircraft and warships that were not funded in the $127.3 billion spending request for the naval services the White House delivered to Congress last week, according to senior Pentagon officials. At the behest of a key congressional Democrat, Adm. Michael Mullen, chief of naval operations, on Monday furnished lawmakers with a $4.6 billion itemized list of what he calls "shortfalls"...
