Navy needs $47M in 2020 to develop future large surface combatant concept

The Navy is seeking $46.6 million in research and development funding for concept development of the service's future large surface combatant, a ship that will ultimately succeed the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. According to the service's fiscal year 2020 budget documents, the new vessel "will leverage DDG-51 Flight III combat systems," while incorporating "non-developmental systems into a new hull design."
