Navy recommends not reprogramming SM-3 demilitarization funding for fleet exercises

The Navy is rejecting a suggestion by Senate authorizers to re-purpose old Standard Missile-3 guided missiles for live-fire exercises because it would be several times more expensive and have a "limited return on investment," according to a service report sent to Congress last month and viewed by Inside the Navy .
