Navy requests industry help building floating dry docks for carriers, nuclear submarines

The Navy is seeking industry's help to identify the costs and requirements for constructing a floating dry dock that can accommodate aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines, according to an Aug. 9 request for information. The RFI is from the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Plan program office, a relatively new organization charged with executing the Navy's $21 billion, 20-year plan to recapitalize the service's four public shipyards.
