Obama vetoes defense bill as budget impasse grinds on

President Obama vetoed the defense authorization bill Thursday in the latest episode of the ongoing battle over the federal budget. The House, meanwhile, has scheduled a Nov. 5 vote to override Obama's veto. House lawmakers initially voted 270-156 to pass the bill, which would not be enough to override the president.
