Osprey Incident Triggers Mishap Investigation

The Navy is investigating why a V-22 Osprey was forced to abort a pilot training flight and make an emergency landing Sept. 8 at Patuxent River, MD. No one was injured, but the HX-21 naval rotary wing test squadron has convened an aviation mishap board to investigate the incident because the cost of repairs might exceed certain thresholds and because the fleet might learn valuable lessons, according to an incident summary disseminated to defense officials.
