Pentagon Asks Congress For Funding To Pay For Iraq War

The Bush administration will send Congress a $62.6 billion supplemental budget request tomorrow to pay for the Pentagon's cost of war with Iraq, a senior Defense Department official said today. The figure is based on administration assumptions of a war of short duration but high intensity, the official said. When asked what a short war means, the official responded, "Not several months."
