Pentagon Awards Lockheed $950M Joint Strike Fighter Contract

The Pentagon has awarded Lockheed Martin a $950 million advance acquisition contract for 94 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. The funding is for long-lead-time, materials, parts and components in preparation of delivering the low-rate initial production aircraft, according to a June 4 statement. The contract pays for 44 F-35A conventional-takeoff-and-landing jets for the Air Force, two for Italy, two for Turkey, eight for Australia, six for Norway and 16 for "various foreign military sales customers," the statement reads.
