Pentagon To Create Second CENTCOM Deputy Slot

Army Lt. Gen. John Abizaid has been nominated for the new position of deputy commander of Combined Forces Command, U.S. Central Command, the Pentagon announced today. CENTCOM already has one three-star deputy; Abizaid, if confirmed by the Senate, would become a second deputy to Commander Gen. Tommy Franks, according to a Pentagon spokesman.
