Pentagon Seeks to Establish New Centers for Human Rights

The Defense Department is seeking permission from Congress to establish new organizations focused on human rights that would provide a means for the U.S. military to cooperate with foreign armed forces and nongovernmental organizations on matters like human trafficking. The proposed law, submitted by the Pentagon to Congress earlier this month as part of a wide-ranging package of legislative proposals, would allow the defense secretary to "operate Centers for Excellence in Human Rights."
