Pentagon Seeks Permission to Increase Number of Army Deputy Chiefs of Staff (Corrected)

The Defense Department is seeking congressional permission to add as many as three deputy chiefs of staff to the Army staff. The Pentagon has proposed a change in the law by submitting to Congress a legislative proposal along with its fiscal year 2008 budget request that would "provide the secretary of the Army with greater flexibility to determine the number of deputy chiefs of staff and assistant chiefs of staff on the Army Staff."
