Pentagon Shifts $498 Million to 'Accelerate' MRAP Purchases

The Pentagon has tapped several Army and Marine Corps modernization accounts to amass nearly $500 million for the rapid purchase of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, which promise improved protection against roadside bombs. Tina Jonas, the Defense Department comptroller, on March 28 approved shifting $498 million from select Army and Marine Corps procurement accounts into others designated "to accelerate the procurement" of MRAP vehicles. The increases will pump $50 million into the Army's Ground Standoff Mine Detection System budget line...
