President Nominates Abizaid To Lead CENTCOM

The president today nominated Lt. Gen. John Abizaid to lead U.S. Central Command. The deputy commander (forward) at CENTCOM, Abizaid is deployed to Iraq. He has been considered the favorite to take the top job at CENTCOM since commander Gen. Tommy Franks announced his intention to retire.
