Report Highlights Progress of Federal Declassification Efforts

While the federal government continued to declassify huge amounts of older documents and reduce the number of employees authorized to classify new ones in fiscal year 1999, the office responsible for overseeing such efforts is concerned about a continued increase in the number of new documents that are kept from the public.
