President Bush today announced he has accepted the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, with a senior Democrat saying the embattled Iraq war architect is expected to remain in office until his replacement garners Senate approval. Because "Iraq is not working well enough fast enough," Rumsfeld and Bush decided in a meeting yesterday that the defense secretary should step aside, the president said today during a 45-minute news conference at the White House.
